By Tony Harrison from his trilogy The Mysteries and directed by John Savage
Running time is approximately 2 hours 15 minutes including interval.
The Nativity is the first of Tony Harrison’s trio of memorable adaptations of the traditional mystery plays. It tells the Biblical story from Creation to the birth of Christ. The play is about myths, legends and stories and not specifically about religious beliefs or their promotion. This is no infant school play however, but an exciting performance which includes music, dance and song. Think of God in a hard hat on a building site!
Our small theatre will be used in a highly imaginative way and includes an exciting departure from our normal seating arrangements - there will be eight unreserved seats on the stage giving audience members the opportunity for a more immersive theatre experience. As the play unfolds you may be ushered into a different seat on the stage or even invited to stand for a while by a member of the cast. These special seats are available via our TicketSource website alongside our usual auditorium seats. You will need to hurry though if you want one of the stage seats, they are likely to go quickly.
