David Jason joined Incognitos in his mid teens not so long after we had gained a lease on our current building in 1948. As a trainee electrician he was soon involved in the wiring installations in the building and from there to the lighting of shows. He was born not far from our Theatre in Lodge Lane, N12. We are told that his head teacher had suggested he came to us to keep him out of trouble. After a while he was given the chance to perform in our productions and there are several black and white photographs of him in our archives. He was also 'borrowed' by other local amateur drama groups to take part in their shows. Two of our members remember him taking part with them in one such show.
The rest is common knowledge and the fish porter’s son from North Finchley is now a much admired comic, and serious, actor and a knight of the realm. We are proud that he remains to this day our patron and generous benefactor.
